Kopeto is located 60 Kilometers from Lodwar town. It is an area occupied by the Turkana community. This is a semi-arid region. The Turkana are nomadic pastoralists. We saw the need to take Turkana Audio Bibles to Kopeto Village and establish Audio Bible Listening groups in the Community.
In this location, we have Pastor Joseph Haggai as our local missionary. He made a huge sacrifice to travel 60 Kilometers so that the Turkana can hear God’s voice through the Audio Bibles.
In 2019, Pst. Haggai was trained and given 25 Turkana Audio Bibles to use for the ministry among the Turkanas. Our aim was to work with him in creating 25 Turkana Audio Bible listening groups in the community.
Establishing the church using Audio Bible (s)
Pst. Haggai began his ministry moving from one manyatta (Turkana home) to another evangelizing using the Turkana Audio Bibles. The Audio Bibles became more popular as more people created interest and began to listen to the Word of God in their manyattas.
In one particular home, the husband to three wives, instructed his wives to listen to the audio Bibles daily. This was a great milestone to Pst. Haggai’s ministry because the men in the Turkana community are custodians of the community culture hence this was least expected from him.
Another breakthrough followed soon after. These women and many others joined together, cleared a field and fenced it so that this area can act as a place they can sit and listen to the audio Bible.
Our observation of the church, women were the majority. Almost 90 percent of the church.
We thank God, in this particular church, the men began drawing closer to church and God through the Audio Bibles. Currently, he conducts two church services; one for the men and another for the women.
The church that started from one manyatta and one Turkana Audio Bible, now has 150 members.
We are praying that as they continue to listen to the Turkana Audio Bibles, we will get more people joining the fellowship in the church.
